Minjia Johnny Huang is a freelance artist who travels between Australia and China, exploring and developing his own artistic style and direction. He obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Shanghai in 1982 and has since participated in numerous art exhibitions throughout Shanghai.
After immigrating to Australia, Johnny took part in several fine arts exhibitions in Sydney, Adelaide, and Brisbane. In 1995, he completed a Postgraduate qualification in Visual Arts and Education at the University of Adelaide. In 2000, he was employed as a special artist for T. Bach Art Gallery in Las Vegas. In 2003, he held an art exhibition in Tokyo.
Johnny has been a long-term member of the Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS). In recent years, his artworks have received multiple awards in various art exhibitions in Brisbane.
In 2025, his oil painting Jacaranda – UQ Riverside Lawns was shortlisted for the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane exhibition and displayed at The Star Event Centre.
In 2024, his painting Beauty in Bloom received the Figurative Popularity Award.
In 2022-2024, he consecutively won the title of Most Popular Artist at the Brisbane Chinese Art Festival.
In 2022, his painting Wind won First Prize in the Abstract Painting Competition.
