As part of the RQAS Biennial we are delighted to host The Young Artist Award again in 2020. This exhibition is an initiative of RQAS Brisbane and is open to Queensland residents aged up to 30 years old. The Award is designed to encourage and support young artists in the pursuit of excellence. 

Young artists are invited to submit 2D artworks in the categories of Painting and Drawing of a subject created and “observed from life” ie. created by drawing or painting in front of the subject. Photography is to be used as supportive reference only. Subject, genre, stylistic approach and medium are of the artist’s choice.

The exhibition will be judged by Andrew Bonneau with winners announced at the Biennial Gala Opening on Saturday 12th September.

Conditions of Entry

How to Enter:

1.1 Fill out the entry form, which is available online at rqas.com.au or at the Petrie Terrace Gallery.
1.2 Post, deliver or email your entry form and images to Unit 3, 162 Petrie Terrace, Petrie Terrace, 4000 or entries@rqas.com.au
1.3 Image files (in jpeg format only) no larger that 3MB and 300 DPI must accompany each entry. Digital files can be emailed to entries@rqas.com.au or Supplied on a clearly labeled CD or USB/Flash Drive. Image files MUST be titled as follows: your surname_First Name_title of artwork.jpg.
1.4 Payment and Entry forms must be received by the Gallery by due date listed on page 1.

General Conditions:

2.1 Artworks will need to be left in the Gallery until the closing of the Biennial.
2.2 All fees are non refundable and are associated with the competition administration expenses.
2.3 Up to 4 artworks may be entered for pre-selection.
2.4 Painting submitted must not be substantially different from the image entered.
2.5 Exhibitors will allow their work to be reproduced, and all efforts will be made to ensure the necessary acknowledgements of authorship are made.
2.6 Entrant must be aged 30 years old or under  in 2020 and a Queensland resident.
2.7 Proof of address or Personal ID may be required.
2.8 It is expected that exhibitors attend the Opening Event/ Awards Night. Dress code: Dress to impress!

Preparation of Artworks for Exhibition:

3.1 Artworks should not exceed 1.5 square meters (including frame). Stretched canvas is considered to be framed. (example 0.93m wide x 1.6 high=1.488 sq. m)
3.2 Section 1 exhibitors (18-30 year olds) must adhere to the following condition.“D” Rings of the appropriate size must be securely attached approx. 10cm from the top of the frame.
3.3 Section 2 exhibitors (17 year olds and under) Artist can submit their work as described in point 3.2 or if the work in unframed it will be accepted as long as it is presented neatly as outlined below:
  i. paper with normal straight edges
  ii. deckled edge paper
  iii. mounted on board with a mount board “frame” to provide extra protection of the works on paper, with small D Rings taped to the back of the card.
  iv. Magnets would be used to hang works on paper.
3.4 The RQAS reserves the right to not hang or display paintings.
3.5 The artwork may be in any media or style.
3.6 RQAS will charge 33% commission on all artwork sold.

Selection and Judging

4.1 Selector/s will view all the digital images and select the exhibition from the images received. Artists will then be informed if they have been successful or not.
4.2 The Judge will award the prizes from the finalist exhibition.
4.3 The decision of the Judge is final and no correspondence will be will be entered into.

Delivery

5.1 Artworks are accepted, displayed, and returned at the owner’s risk. Freight and insurance are also the owner’s responsibility. All care will be taken, but no responsibility accepted for loss or damage.

Displaying your artwork:

Framed artworks and works on canvas must be ready to hang using “D” rings placed approximately 5cm from the top of the frame. All artworks must be clearly labelled with the Exhibition, Artist Name, Artwork Title, Medium and Price. Labels can be printed by downloading the Hardcopy Entry Form above. Please locate your artwork label on the back but hanging below the edge of the Artwork on the lower right hand side as seen from the front.
