Traditionally, physical navigation tools have included compasses, maps and even the stars. The therapists exhibiting in Navigation use a variety of arts mediums and methods, both in their work with participants and in their own self-reflection. No compasses are necessary. In therapy sessions, most therapists enjoy utilising movement, yoga, music and breath-work. Some like to offer the feel of the texture of fibres, clays or twine. Others prefer to focus on using paint or pencils in making marks on paper, canvas or wood. The list goes on. The variety is huge, and this show displays a sample of materials used.
This exhibition showcases the creative output of five art psychotherapists who graduated from the UQ Master of Mental Health (Art Therapy) together, and have exhibited together numerous times since, in order to share the process of art therapy more widely. Join us on a journey of discovery.
This year’s show Navigation will be on show at Petrie Terrace Gallery from Tuesday, 15th of July to Sunday, 20th of July, 2025.
