For our next ‘ART TALKS’ event, the Royal Queensland Art Society Brisbane Branch invites its members and the art loving community to:
“Daphne Mayo: Artist, National, Queensland Icon and Influencer”
The May ART TALKS discussion seeks to explore the relevance of Daphne Mayo’s life to our life and creative choices today by asking, what can be learned if we reflect on Daphne Mayo in the following roles: Royal Queensland Art Society Vice-President (1927-30); Life-member of Royal Queensland Art Society; Foundation Member of the Australian Academy of Art (a Federal Government supported anti-modernist organisation); co-establisher of the Art Reference Library at The University of Queensland; fund raiser and trustee for the Queensland Art Gallery; and recipient of an MBE (1959). Then, of course, there is the long list of Mayo’s sculptural works across Australia!
This month’s discussion will be presented by Richard Blundell, an independent scholar, painter, printmaker and educator with interests in action-research, bioregionalism, community studies, collective enquiry and meditative practices. Richard is a Fellow of the Royal Queensland Art Society and the Design Institute of Australia. His studio and home are on a ‘Land-for-wildlife’ property at Daisy Hill adjacent to significant Koala and Powerful Owl conservation parks.
This talk will be held at Petrie Terrace Gallery on Sunday, 24th May from 2pm to 4pm. Afternoon tea is included in the ticket price.
Ticket Prices:
