It is with much pleasure that Petrie Terrace Gallery (The home of RQAS) announces that 1994 Archibald prize winner Francis Giacco will be holding a Still Life workshop at the Gallery for three days from Friday 31st May to Sunday 2nd June 2019.
This is the second time where we have been able to secure Francis for an exclusive workshop. This workshop will cover drawing, setting up and composition followed by tonal studies, background studies and tone and colour underpainting. The final day will incorporate colour completion, matching of tone and colour. Limited spaces available. Please book online using form below or alternatively phone the Gallery on 07 3367 1977.

Daily duration: 9am – 4pm, with a 45 min break for lunch.
Please BYO Lunch, Morning and Afternoon Tea will be supplied.
Day 1: Drawing only, setting up a still life with emphasis on composition and form drawing
Day 2: Tonal study and underpainting and study of tone
Day 3; Colour completion, matching tone and colour.
Material List
Please note that solvents, turps and odourless solvents will not be allowed in the studio as these can be injurious to health.
Day 1: Soft pencil, rubber, A2 paper
Day 2: Canvass, linseed oil, Acrylics Paint: white, raw umber, or burnt sienna or burnt umber.
Day 3: Colours : yellow ochre, cadmium yellow, raw umber, alaizon crimson, viridian, ultra-marine blue, black or variations of these colours.
About your Tutor
Francis Giacco studied architecture at the University of New South Wales and later studied drawing at the Julian Ashton School. He studied privately with Brian Dunlop and David Wilson and completed additional training in Vienna. Giacco won the 1994 Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales with his work ‘Homage to John Reichhard’. He has held solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and his work has been included in the Doug Moran and Archibald Prize exhibitions. Click here to read Francis’ Biography.
