This course is a brief four-week introduction to how to approach drawing. It is designed for the absolute beginner or more experienced artists wishing to re-examine the fundamentals, all in a relaxed atmosphere. We will work from still life and concentrate on processes of visual enquiry, asking basic questions about shape, proportion, depth, and perspective as well as the place of silhouette, composition and abstraction in representational drawing. The aim is to persuade the aspiring artist that effective drawing is about learning to see what is not immediately obvious to visual perception. Participants will learn that the skills and understanding essential to good drawing can be gained by anyone through sustained observation and practice.

Materials:

Please bring at least 4 sheets of A2 university cartridge paper (or similar)  Tutor will supply all other drawing materials, and you are welcome to bring your own as well.
