My Arts Practice – Ellen Appleby
Ceramics, Print and Mixed Media
I work with clay and different media, and make vessels and sculptures. I love making marks; textures; imagery on different surfaces; layering images; words; porcelain; and making books. I am inspired by many things especially beautiful objects.
I am concerned and confused about so much in today’s crazy world. I hope that our grandchildren and future generations will be able to enjoy the beauty and bounty of the earth without wars and conflict. I hope for equality, without greed, for all people from all nationalities, gender and diversities so they can enjoy their chosen lifestyle.
My happy places, my loves, my inner landscapes, and my concerns can be found in my art. My art is not always what it seems with hidden meaning and metaphor.
I have taught at all levels of education, and completed a Diploma of Contemporary Visual Arts (Ceramics) in 2007, a Mathematics degree (1970), and two graduate diplomas (c1990). I have exhibited and been involved with many arts events and organisations on the Sunshine Coast.
6 years of family illness, Covid, and travel, and a recent move to Brisbane has meant limited studio time, and I now return to my arts journey, and re-establishing my arts practice.
