“From the Ridge”, will be Dave Groom’s first solo show in Brisbane for 4 years. It features paintings and pastels of the landscape of Lamington National Park, focusing on distant valley views and the patterns and textures of the forests; especially the open eucalypt forest that surrounds Dave’s Studio.
“They’re generally imagined views and while creating an atmosphere is important, so too is finding the right tones, hues and colours. Having travelled the world as a tour guide for 30 years; one of the things I appreciate about the Australian landscape is its unique light, colour and texture. These are things I try to represent.”
David Groom has held over 20 solo exhibitions throughout Australia and been involved in many group shows. His work features in the collections of the Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Mater Private Hospital and Gold Coast Griffith University Hospital. He has a small gallery attached to his studio on the edge of Lamington National Park that is open to the public.
“Living in the landscape allows me to work from memory, as the views and feelings are always there. As an artist heading into my mid-career, I’m starting to appreciate the simple and very valuable pleasure of getting to know one particular landscape well.”
Please join us to celebrate with David at the opening of “From the Ridge” Wednesday evening, 7 August at 7pm.
The exhibition will continue until Sunday, 11 August.
