DETAILS

“Throw out the red, yellow, blue primary ideas you’ve been taught.” Joseph, May 2017

This workshop is for both the raw beginner as well as experienced hands in colour mixing who want to get up to speed with the latest in colour theory using Cyan, Yellow and Magenta (CYM) as the primaries of pigments. Colour mixing theory for artists has not changed in over 50 years (in my experience) and is based on the fallacy that red, yellow and blue are the primaries of colour.

You will learn why Cyan. Yellow and  Magenta are the primaries for pigment and then correctly locate the colours you already own on the blank colour wheel provided. You will then learn how to use the Colour Wheel and Mixing System (CMS) to easily and confidently mix any target colour using at most three paint pigments plus white and mix the same target colour using other colours. The workshop will end with doing a full colour study of a flower in context: stems, leaves, petals etc.

About Abramo

Although showing promise as an artist while still at school, he went on to study and practice Architecture most of his working life with the occasional return to art classes at the Brisbane Institute of Art (BIA) in 1986, 1988 and 1990. From 2006 to 2010
he resumed art classes at the BIA, attending courses regularly and in 2010 with his group of fellow artists held a group exhibition and formed ‘The Friday 13 Group’ which continues to meet and paint at the BIA studios on a weekly basis. In
2013, he came upon Merv Moriarty’s ‘Colour, the Definitive Guide’ which brought him full circle to finally completing his understanding of colour, first studied during his art and architecture training in the mid 60’s and 70’s. He is a member of Flying Arts Alliance, Brisbane Institute of Art and the Royal Queensland Art Society.
