SUMMARY:Pasifik Horizon 2026
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”10″ accent_color=”#4ba686″][vc_column_text]Paradise Palette Art Institute is proud to present Pasifik Horizon\, a landmark exhibition bringing together leading artists from Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia in a vibrant celebration of Pacific creativity\, identity\, and cultural exchange. The exhibition will run from Wednesday\, 28th of October to Sunday\, 8th of November at RQAS Brisbane Gallery. \nFeaturing works by Apa Hugo and Clement Koys (Papua New Guinea) and Stéphane Foucaud (New Caledonia)\, Pasifik Horizon showcases the dynamic artistic voices shaping contemporary Melanesian and Francophone Pacific art. \nPNG artist Apa Hugo\, one of the country’s most beloved contemporary painters\, presents colourful depictions of village life\, birds\, animals\, and cultural symbolism — a style shaped by his early mentorship under the late Mathius Kauage. Clement Koys contributes bold\, modern interpretations of Melanesian identity\, exploring cultural resilience and generational knowledge. \nNew Caledonian artist Stéphane Foucaud brings a striking “neo‑tribal” visual language informed by Kanak land markers\, scarification motifs\, and syncretic mythologies. His hybrid style blends spontaneous brushwork with fine pen drawing\, reflecting the layered cultural landscape of Oceania. \nA dedicated Paradise Palette mini‑section will feature selected works from PPAI’s collection\, honouring the founding vision of Don Wotton and celebrating the Institute’s mission to elevate Pacific artists and strengthen regional cultural exchange. \nVisitors are also welcome to attend the official opening event on Thursday\, 29th of October\, 6pm-8:30pm at RQAS Brisbane Gallery. This is a free event\, we look forward to seeing you at the gallery![/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”10″ accent_color=”#4ba686″][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n

SUMMARY:RQAS Brisbane Art Showcase at Queens Wharf - Summer Light
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\nCELEBRATING MEMBERS CREATIVITY AND ARTISTIC EXPRESSION \n\n\n\nThis exhibition\, on show at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane\, is open to financial members of the RQAS Brisbane Branch \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nIn partnership with Queen’s Wharf Brisbane\, the Royal Queensland Art Society Brisbane Branch is pleased to offer our members the opportunity to display their artworks in the Star Event Centre at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. \nWe invite artists to explore the luminous beauty and transformative power of light during the Australian summer. Works may explore how summer light affects landscapes\, seascapes\, urban environments\, interiors\, people\, and objects. Artists are encouraged to consider the emotional impact of light — its energy\, transience\, warmth\, intensity\, and the unique way it shapes colour\, mood\, and atmosphere in the summer months. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nEXHIBITION ON SHOW \nTuesday\, 3rd November 2026 to Sunday\, 10th January 2027\, in The Star Event Centre at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane \nNOTE: This exhibition is only open to Events Centre Guests\, and not the public. This helps the gallery to create a cohesive exhibition with a professional look\, as well as ensuring the hanging process is easy and safe for our staff and volunteers. \nPLEASE REFER TO THE EXHIBITION TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR MINIMUM FRAMING REQUIREMENTS. \nArtworks  must be clean\, dry and professionally finished before being delivered to the gallery. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage\, making sure the matt is not marked and frame is not damaged \nTo download guidelines and view images please click here \nPainted Edges & Framed Works \nIf works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. Artists may choose to paint the edge a single colour such as grey or a colour that complements the artwork\, see  Figure 1\, or you may complete the artwork in the “round” as in Figure 2. In the “round” means to extend the painting around the edge of the canvas. Essentially\, the edges should not have random marks\, such as fingerprints or paint drips. \nD Rings \nFramed artworks and works on canvas (or otherwise mounted) must be ready to hang on the wall using medium or large sized “D” rings placed approximately 5-10cm from the top of the frame. Attach hooks facing upwards and on the outside of the canvas frame\, as pictured in Figure 3. Wire or string is not required. However\, if you would like to add wire or string\, please see Figure 3. As you can see the wire is further down the canvas and is not attached to the top “D” ring. \nSquaring Up \nTo determine if a rectangular or square canvas is “square” or “squared up”\, measure the diagonal of the canvas/artwork\, and it should be the same length both ways. Please refer to Figure 4. \nFoxing & Mould \nFoxing is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning and can appear as brown\, yellow\, or red stains on the paper or canvas. If it appears on an artwork mat\, the work must be reframed with a new mat. If it appears on the canvas or paper\, it must be treated and repainted\, so it is not visible. \nArtwork Labels \nClearly mark the artist’s name\, contact details\, the title of work\, and price on an artwork label\, to be placed on the back of the work. We need this information to easily identify your artwork before the exhibition labels (didactics) and catalogue are printed for the exhibition. Some artists choose to write this information on the back of the frame/canvas directly. You may also choose to include this on a removable/temporary label\, or on a permanent label or “Certificate of Authenticity”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_btn title=”CONDITIONS OF ENTRY” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Frqas.com.au%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2026%2F07%2FRQAS-Showcase-Conditions-of-Entry-Summer-Light-2026.pdf||target:%20_blank|”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1747798346082{background-color: #f7f7f7 !important;}”][vc_column_text] \nENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”22px”][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n

SUMMARY:Colours of Summer
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]We invite artists to celebrate the vibrant\, rich\, and distinctive colour palette of summer. This exhibition explores the bold and joyful colours that define our summer landscape\, lifestyle\, and cultural experiences – either in Queensland or further afield. \nArtists are encouraged to interpret Colours of Summer through a variety of lenses: artists may like to depict summer weather\, activities\, what this season means to them\, and anything else that relates to this time of year. \nAll artistic media and approaches are welcome\, including painting\, drawing\, photography\, printmaking\, mixed media\, sculpture\, and textile works. Both representational and abstract interpretations of the theme are encouraged. Artworks can be 2D or 3D and must be no larger than 1m x 1m. \nThis exhibition is not judged. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nThis exhibition explores the quiet power of still life and inanimate objects — the everyday things we surround ourselves with\, and the deep sentimental meanings we assign to them. From a worn chair that holds family history to a simple cup that carries the memory of a loved one\, these works examine how objects become vessels of emotion\, memory\, and intimacy. \nRather than treating still life as a traditional study of form and light\, the exhibition focuses on the relationships we form with the material world. Artists investigate how ordinary things absorb our experiences\, hold our stories\, and continue to speak to us long after their practical purpose has faded. \n  \nArtists are invited to submit artworks in their own choice of media including both 2D and 3D works. \nThis exhibition is not judged. People’s Choice will be awarded at the end of the Exhibition with the winner receiving a free Membership to RQAS Brisbane Branch for 12 months. \n  \nPlease see details below on how to enter\, terms and conditions\, and presentation guidelines.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nINFORMATION FOR ARTISTS\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\nClick on the buttons below to view prizes\, event dates\, entry fees and terms and conditions: \n[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_tabs shape=”square” spacing=”10″ alignment=”center” active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”EVENT DATES” tab_id=”dates”][vc_column_text] \nDATES\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”4″ el_width=”10″ accent_color=”#d25846″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_table vc_table_theme=”classic” allow_html=”1″][bg#d05c49;c#ffffff]\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Event%20Activity\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Date|1\,Entry%20forms%20submitted%20to%20RQAS%20by%3A\,Wednesday%2013th%20of%20January%202027%2C%203%3A30pm|2\,Bring%20in%20day-Artwork%20to%20be%20delivered%20to%20RQAS%3A\,Tuesday%2C%2019th%20of%20January%202027%2C%20between%2010am%20-%2012pm|3\,Exhibition%20Opens%20to%20Public%3A\,Friday%2C%2022nd%20of%20January%202027%2C%2010%3A00am|5\,Exhibition%20closes%3A\,Sunday%2C%2014th%20of%20February%202027%2C%203%3A30pm|6\,Bump%20out%20Day%20-%20pickup%20your%20work%3A\,Monday%2C%2015th%20of%20February%202027%2C%20between%2010am%20-%2012pm[/vc_table][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”ENTRY FEES” tab_id=”entryfees”][vc_column_text] \nENTRY FEES\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”4″ el_width=”10″ accent_color=”#d25846″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_table vc_table_theme=”classic” allow_html=”1″][bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Entry%20Fee\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Description|%2435\,Per%20Artwork|%2420\,Per%20Artwork%20-%20RQAS%20Brisbane%20Branch%20Members[/vc_table][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”TERMS AND CONDITIONS” tab_id=”1607945731535-a081cfe6-1ef9″][vc_column_text] \nCONDITIONS OF ENTRY \nENTRY\n1.1. SUMMARY:Harold & Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize 2027
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nThis prize celebrates the practice of drawing\, a foundational skill for good artistic practice. Artists are invited to submit drawings completed in a variety of media including (but not limited to) pencil\, graphite\, charcoal\, or pen. \nEntries must be monochromatic with tonal gradations derived from main media used. A small amount of colour may be used to enhance the drawing; however\, this must be kept to a minimum. Artists may also choose to include a supporting sketchbook to be displayed in the finalist’s exhibition\, however this will not be part of the judging process. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHistory of the Harold and Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize \nThe Harold Richardson Drawing Award was instigated in 1984 by the Royal Queensland Art Society\, shortly after his Passing. Richardson himself wasn’t an artist but had a passion for the visual arts. Both Harold and his wife Agnes\, (they were married in 1953) contributed greatly to the art scene in Queensland\, and in particular to the Royal Queensland Art Society. \nHarold Richardson was born in 1901 and became a member of the RQAS in the 1940’s\, and it wasn’t long before he became Honorary Secretary in 1948 and 1949.His brother Albert Richardson was a very good Landscape painter\, and as Don Hamilton remembers: a very good watercolourist. Harold always thought he should be an artist\, and he did at one time have a few lessons with Caroline Barker (Agnes’s sister)\, but didn’t continue. His activities in later years focused on the effective running of the society. From 1970 to 1977 he was secretary\, and in 1978 became president\, and held that position until 1980. His aims were to lift the standard of the society by increasing the membership\, and concentrate on promoting art\, both from the participation point of view and the area of appreciation. He was the society’s first Gallery Director in 1971\, just three years after the society premises were built in Spring Hill. He was a tireless worker for the Society\, and during his term as Director he managed to get the Annual Exhibitions in newly completed buildings in the city centre\, which as Keith Bradbury noted: it brought a new visibility to the Society. In1977 he was nominated for the Queens Silver Medal and in 1981 was awarded Honorary Life membership to the RQAS. \nAgnes Richardson (Barker) was born in 1907 and came from an artistic family. The family moved from Melbourne to Brisbane in 1920. In 1925 Agnes enrolled as a full time student at the central Technical College in George Street\, studying painting under F.J. Martyn Roberts and pottery with L.J. Harvey. Harvey encouraged her to take up sculpture\, but because of ill health she was unable to continue in this field. She gave up pottery in 1934\, to focus on craft/arts\, although some of her pottery was exhibited in the exhibition L.J. Harvey and his School at the Queensland art gallery in 1983. Agnes first exhibited with the RQAS in1929\, and has had close association since. She was awarded Honorary life Membership in 1976. In later years she concentrated on bark painting and oriental brush painting\, exhibiting both art forms with the RQAS. In January 2007\, Agnes joined a very special group of people as a centenarian\, having reached 100 years of age. She was still working at her art\, making her own gift cards. Her success in business – as in life – seems to stem from the unique way she sees the world. I just look at things\, and suddenly they become something different. With her passing in 2008\, an endowment of funds from her estate was made available to the RQAS to continue the Drawing award\, originally named after her husband with her name now added to the prize. \nGreg de Silva        © Greg de Silva: February 2005\, March 2010 \nSources\nGlen R Cooke & Deborah Edwards\, L.J. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage. \nTo download guidelines and view images please click here \nPainted Edges & Framed Works \nIf works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. You may also choose to include this on a removable/temporary label\, or on a permanent label or “Certificate of Authenticity”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nHARDCOPY ENTRY FORM \n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Click Here for PDF of Entry Form” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Frqas.com.au%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2026%2F09%2FEntry-form-HARD-prize-2027-Judged-Exhibition.docx|||”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nONLINE ENTRY FORM \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZpdHNhZm9ybWFsaXR5LmNvbSUyRmZvcm0lMkZIQVJELXByaXplLTIwMjclMjIlMjBzdHlsZSUzRCUyMndpZHRoJTNBMTAwJTI1JTNCYm9yZGVyJTNBbm9uZSUzQmhlaWdodCUzQTEyMDBweCUzQiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRmlmcmFtZSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n
