This helps the gallery to create a cohesive exhibition with a professional look\, as well as ensuring the hanging process is easy and safe for our staff and volunteers. \nPLEASE REFER TO THE EXHIBITION TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR MINIMUM FRAMING REQUIREMENTS. \nArtworks  must be clean\, dry and professionally finished before being delivered to the gallery. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage\, making sure the matt is not marked and frame is not damaged \nTo download guidelines and view images please click here \nPainted Edges & Framed Works \nIf works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. Artists may choose to paint the edge a single colour such as grey or a colour that complements the artwork\, see  Figure 1\, or you may complete the artwork in the “round” as in Figure 2. In the “round” means to extend the painting around the edge of the canvas. Essentially\, the edges should not have random marks\, such as fingerprints or paint drips. \nD Rings \nFramed artworks and works on canvas (or otherwise mounted) must be ready to hang on the wall using medium or large sized “D” rings placed approximately 5-10cm from the top of the frame. Attach hooks facing upwards and on the outside of the canvas frame\, as pictured in Figure 3. Wire or string is not required. However\, if you would like to add wire or string\, please see Figure 3. As you can see the wire is further down the canvas and is not attached to the top “D” ring. \nSquaring Up \nTo determine if a rectangular or square canvas is “square” or “squared up”\, measure the diagonal of the canvas/artwork\, and it should be the same length both ways. Please refer to Figure 4. \nFoxing & Mould \nFoxing is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning and can appear as brown\, yellow\, or red stains on the paper or canvas. If it appears on an artwork mat\, the work must be reframed with a new mat. If it appears on the canvas or paper\, it must be treated and repainted\, so it is not visible. \nArtwork Labels \nClearly mark the artist’s name\, contact details\, the title of work\, and price on an artwork label\, to be placed on the back of the work. We need this information to easily identify your artwork before the exhibition labels (didactics) and catalogue are printed for the exhibition. Some artists choose to write this information on the back of the frame/canvas directly. You may also choose to include this on a removable/temporary label\, or on a permanent label or “Certificate of Authenticity”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nONLINE ENTRY FORM\n[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZpdHNhZm9ybWFsaXR5LmNvbSUyRmZvcm0lMkZRdWVlbnMtV2hhcmYtQnJpc2JhbmUtQXJ0LVByaXplLTIwMjYlMjIlMjBzdHlsZSUzRCUyMndpZHRoJTNBMTAwJTI1JTNCYm9yZGVyJTNBbm9uZSUzQmhlaWdodCUzQTEyMDBweCUzQiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRmlmcmFtZSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n

SUMMARY:Audrey Gibbs Art Prize
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Audrey Gibbs joined the Royal Queensland Art Society in 1983 and was recognised as a Fellow of the society in 2009. This exhibition explores genre artworks\, one of Audrey’s great pleasures. Sponsored by the Gibbs family\, it will also feature a retrospective of some of her works. \nGenre Artworks are those that depict ordinary people in everyday situations\, both in the exterior and the interior. Rather than heroic or mythological subjects\, these works celebrate the familiar: everyday people participating in domestic routines\, work\, leisure\, social gatherings\, and quiet moments of daily life. Spanning centuries\, the show highlights how artists have found beauty\, humour\, and meaning in the ordinary\, offering intimate windows into human experience and social history. \nArtists are invited to submit their genre artworks in one of the following eligible mediums: Pastel\, Watercolour\, Pencil (including coloured)\, and Charcoal.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”25724″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”25722″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large”][vc_column_text] \nExamples of Audrey Gibbs work \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”25720″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nABOUT AUDREY GIBBS \nAudrey Gibbs (1921-2015) was a well- known and greatly loved Queensland artist\, whose body of work remains cherished in many collections. \nShe was born in Maryborough and educated at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. She loved drawing from an early age and was privately tutored during her school years. After matriculating\,  she worked in a commercial art studio in Brisbane. She married soon after the Second World War and then reared six children. \nWhen her fifth child was two\, Audrey returned to her art\, attending life classes with Melville Haysom. In 1978 she went on to study drawing and watercolour at Seven Hills College of Art. She joined the Pastel Society in 1980 and the Half Dozen Group and Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS) in 1983. In 2009 Audrey was made a Fellow of the RQAS\, in recognition of her significant contribution to RQAS and the arts in Queensland. She exhibited at Ardrossan Gallery (1986 and 1988)\, Riverhouse Gallery (1993 and 1995)\, as well as many sell out shows in her own home at Chelmer. Her work became noted for her masterful use of light and tonal values. \nAudrey’s chief fascination was for figures in interiors\, in any medium. Her oil and watercolour painting offer honest and moving depictions of all the things she loved\, places she had been\, and people she knew. Over the years she embraced various styles in her pursuit of the aesthetic\, yet her work has always remained recognisably Audrey.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nINFORMATION FOR ARTISTS\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\nClick on the buttons below to view prizes\, event dates\, entry fees and terms and conditions: \n[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_tabs shape=”square” spacing=”10″ alignment=”center” active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”EVENT DATES” tab_id=”dates”][vc_column_text] \nDATES\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”4″ el_width=”10″ accent_color=”#d25846″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_table vc_table_theme=”classic” allow_html=”1″][bg#d05c49;c#ffffff]\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Event%20Activity\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Date|1\,Entry%20forms%20submitted%20to%20RQAS%20by%3A\,Wednesday%2C%2026th%20of%20August%2C%203%3A30pm|2\,Bring%20in%20day-Artwork%20to%20be%20delivered%20to%20RQAS%3A\,Tuesday%2C%2029th%20of%20September%20between%2010am%20-%2012pm|3\,Exhibition%20Opens%20to%20Public%3A\,Friday%2C%202nd%20October%20at%2010am|5\,Exhibition%20closes%3A\,Sunday%2C%2025th%20October%20at%203%3A30pm|6\,Bump%20out%20Day%20-%20pickup%20your%20work%3A\,Monday%2C%2026th%20of%20October%20between%2010am%20-%2012pm[/vc_table][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”PRIZES” tab_id=”1768966435032-9cd7b5d3-8f49″][vc_column_text] \nDATES\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”4″ el_width=”10″ accent_color=”#d25846″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_table vc_table_theme=”classic” allow_html=”1″][bg#d05c49;c#ffffff]\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Prizes\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]To%20the%20value%20of|1\,Winner\,%245000|2\,Highly%20Commended\,2%20x%20%24500%20prizes|3\,Peoples%20Choice%20(Awarded%20at%20end%20of%20exhibition)\,%24250%20plus%201-year%20membership%20to%20RQAS%20Brisbane|\,Youth%20Prize%20(aged%2030%20or%20under)\,Up%20to%20%24250%20plus%201-year%20membership%20to%20RQAS%20Brisbane%20%0A(only%20awarded%20if%20sufficient%20entries%20are%20received%20to%20support%20the%20category)[/vc_table][vc_column_text] \nPrizes are to the value of the amount specified above and may include vouchers as part of the award. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”ENTRY FEES” tab_id=”entryfees”][vc_column_text] \nENTRY FEES\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”4″ el_width=”10″ accent_color=”#d25846″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_table vc_table_theme=”classic” allow_html=”1″][bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Entry%20Fee\,[bg#d05c49;c#ffffff;b]Description|%2450\,Per%20artwork%20for%20non-members|%2430\,Per%20artwork%20for%20RQAS%20Brisbane%20Branch%20Members[/vc_table][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”TERMS AND CONDITIONS” tab_id=”1607945731535-a081cfe6-1ef9″][vc_column_text]CONDITIONS OF ENTRY \nENTRY\n1.1. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage. \nTo download guidelines and view images please click here \nPainted Edges & Framed Works \nIf works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. You may also choose to include this on a removable/temporary label\, or on a permanent label or “Certificate of Authenticity”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nHARDCOPY ENTRY FORM \n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Click Here for PDF of Entry Form” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Frqas.com.au%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2026%2F04%2FEntry-form-Audrey-Gibbs-2026-Exhibition.pdf|||”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nONLINE ENTRY FORM \n[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZpdHNhZm9ybWFsaXR5LmNvbSUyRmZvcm0lMkZhdWRyZXktZ2liYnMtYXJ0LXByaXplJTIyJTIwc3R5bGUlM0QlMjJ3aWR0aCUzQTEwMCUyNSUzQmJvcmRlciUzQW5vbmUlM0JoZWlnaHQlM0ExMjAwcHglM0IlMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZpZnJhbWUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n
