DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nFor our next ‘ART TALKS’ event\, the Royal Queensland Art Society Brisbane Branch invites its members and the art loving community to: \n“An afternoon with Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Art Prize Judge\, Mostyn Bramley-Moore”\nThe August ART TALKS event is being presented by Mostyn Bramley-Moore\, who is one of the judges of the 2026 Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Art Prize. For this talk he will be discussing his art practice over the years and also discussing art schools. This is something people often ask him about as much experience with them as both a student and teacher\, and he will share some useful observations. \nMostyn Bramley-Moore studied Fine Arts at the University of Sydney\, RMIT University and Pratt Institute (New York). He has exhibited widely in Australia and overseas\, and his work is included in numerous public collections including the Australian National Gallery\, the Art Gallery of NSW\, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Auckland Art Gallery. He completed studio residencies and fellowships at institutions including the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris)\, the University of St. Andrews (Scotland)\, the University of Hawaii\, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts\, Camberwell College of the Arts (University of the Arts London) and the Valand Academy of Art (Sweden). He taught at several Australian universities and was Head of Visual Arts at Southern Cross University\, Dean of the School of Art at the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne) and Director of the Queensland College of Art (Griffith University). \nThis talk will be held at Petrie Terrace Gallery on Sunday\, 23rd August from 2pm to 4pm. SUMMARY:3 Day Portrait Workshop with Andrew Bonneau
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1541476125948{border-radius: 4px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nIn this workshop we will spend three days creating a realistic portrait in oil paint.  \nWorking from a live model for the entire workshop and beginning from an initial ‘block in’ in graphite\, we will proceed to develop a refined drawing which we will then transfer to canvas to begin painting. \nWe will then develop a transparent underpainting\, followed by a final colour layer in opaque and transparent oil paint. All aspects of the process will be discussed and demonstrated\, such as proportion\, perspective\, anatomy\, conceptualising the model in relation to the light source\, colour theory\, modelling form\, and paint mixing and handling. \nEmphasis will be on the realistic representation of the model\, in terms of light\, shade\, colour\, as well as a believable 3 dimensional sense. \nThe more experience you have in painting and drawing from life the better\, but the workshop is suitable for all levels.   \n  \nDate: Friday 28th\, Saturday 29th\, and Sunday 30th of August\, 2026 \nSessions: 9.00am-4.00pm each day \nVenue: Upstairs Studio Gallery at the Royal Queensland Art Society\, Petrie Terrace Gallery – 3/162 Petrie Terrace\, Brisbane City\, QLD 4000 \nPlease note\, this workshop will be held in the upstairs studio gallery which is only accessible via a flight of stairs. \n  \nMaterials are not included. This exhibition explores genre artworks\, one of Audrey’s great pleasures. Sponsored by the Gibbs family\, it will also feature a retrospective of some of her works. \nGenre Artworks are those that depict ordinary people in everyday situations\, both in the exterior and the interior. Rather than heroic or mythological subjects\, these works celebrate the familiar: everyday people participating in domestic routines\, work\, leisure\, social gatherings\, and quiet moments of daily life. She loved drawing from an early age and was privately tutored during her school years. After matriculating\,  she worked in a commercial art studio in Brisbane. She married soon after the Second World War and then reared six children.  \nWhen her fifth child was two\, Audrey returned to her art\, attending life classes with Melville Haysom. In 1978 she went on to study drawing and watercolour at Seven Hills College of Art. She joined the Pastel Society in 1980 and the Half Dozen Group and Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS) in 1983. In 2009 Audrey was made a Fellow of the RQAS\, in recognition of her significant contribution to RQAS and the arts in Queensland. She exhibited at Ardrossan Gallery (1986 and 1988)\, Riverhouse Gallery (1993 and 1995)\, as well as many sell out shows in her own home at Chelmer. Her work became noted for her masterful use of light and tonal values. \nAudrey’s chief fascination was for figures in interiors\, in any medium. Her oil and watercolour painting offer honest and moving depictions of all the things she loved\, places she had been\, and people she knew. This helps the gallery to create a cohesive exhibition with a professional look\, as well as ensuring the hanging process is easy and safe for our staff and volunteers. \nPLEASE REFER TO THE EXHIBITION TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR MINIMUM FRAMING REQUIREMENTS. \nArtworks must be clean\, dry and professionally finished before being delivered to the gallery. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage. \nTo download guidelines and view images please click here \nPainted Edges & Framed Works \nIf works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. Artists may choose to paint the edge a single colour such as grey or a colour that complements the artwork\, see  Figure 1\, or you may complete the artwork in the “round” as in Figure 2. In the “round” means to extend the painting around the edge of the canvas. Essentially\, the edges should not have random marks\, such as fingerprints or paint drips. \nD Rings \nFramed artworks and works on canvas (or otherwise mounted) must be ready to hang on the wall using medium or large sized “D” rings placed approximately 5-10cm from the top of the frame. Attach hooks facing upwards and on the outside of the canvas frame\, as pictured in Figure 3. Wire or string is not required. However\, if you would like to add wire or string\, please see Figure 3. As you can see the wire is further down the canvas and is not attached to the top “D” ring. \nSquaring Up \nTo determine if a rectangular or square canvas is “square” or “squared up”\, measure the diagonal of the canvas/artwork\, and it should be the same length both ways. Please refer to Figure 4. \nFoxing & Mould \nFoxing is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning and can appear as brown\, yellow\, or red stains on the paper or canvas. If it appears on an artwork mat\, the work must be reframed with a new mat. If it appears on the canvas or paper\, it must be treated and repainted\, so it is not visible. \nArtwork Labels  \nClearly mark the artist’s name\, contact details\, the title of work\, and price on an artwork label\, to be placed on the back of the work. We need this information to easily identify your artwork before the exhibition labels (didactics) and catalogue are printed for the exhibition. Some artists choose to write this information on the back of the frame/canvas directly. This helps the gallery to create a cohesive exhibition with a professional look\, as well as ensuring the hanging process is easy and safe for our staff and volunteers. \nPLEASE REFER TO THE EXHIBITION TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR MINIMUM FRAMING REQUIREMENTS. \nArtworks  must be clean\, dry and professionally finished before being delivered to the gallery. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage\, making sure the matt is not marked and frame is not damaged \nTo download guidelines and view images please click here \nPainted Edges & Framed Works \nIf works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. Artists may choose to paint the edge a single colour such as grey or a colour that complements the artwork\, see  Figure 1\, or you may complete the artwork in the “round” as in Figure 2. In the “round” means to extend the painting around the edge of the canvas. Essentially\, the edges should not have random marks\, such as fingerprints or paint drips. \nD Rings \nFramed artworks and works on canvas (or otherwise mounted) must be ready to hang on the wall using medium or large sized “D” rings placed approximately 5-10cm from the top of the frame. Attach hooks facing upwards and on the outside of the canvas frame\, as pictured in Figure 3. Wire or string is not required. However\, if you would like to add wire or string\, please see Figure 3. As you can see the wire is further down the canvas and is not attached to the top “D” ring. \nSquaring Up \nTo determine if a rectangular or square canvas is “square” or “squared up”\, measure the diagonal of the canvas/artwork\, and it should be the same length both ways. Please refer to Figure 4. \nFoxing & Mould \nFoxing is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning and can appear as brown\, yellow\, or red stains on the paper or canvas. If it appears on an artwork mat\, the work must be reframed with a new mat. If it appears on the canvas or paper\, it must be treated and repainted\, so it is not visible. \nArtwork Labels  \nClearly mark the artist’s name\, contact details\, the title of work\, and price on an artwork label\, to be placed on the back of the work. We need this information to easily identify your artwork before the exhibition labels (didactics) and catalogue are printed for the exhibition. Some artists choose to write this information on the back of the frame/canvas directly. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDETAILS\n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”5″ el_width=”10″ accent_color=”#d35847″][vc_column_text] \nThese untutored sessions follow a classical life drawing class structure of short and longer poses by a nude life model\, your medium is your choice in these classes\, watercolours\, acrylics\, graphite\, charcoal – bring along whatever materials you enjoy working with and get your hand flowing with the practice of capturing form. \nEasels\, drawing donkey\, & boards supplied\, artists to supply all other materials. \n  \nPhotography and all digital drawing devices such as iPads are not permitted during life classes with nude models at the RQAS.  \nPlease note: These sessions are only open to attendees aged 18+. Younger Artists aged 16-18yrs may attend with parental supervision.
