The Competition is a portraiture competition run annually by The Queensland Portrait Prize Limited ACN 608 851 243 trading as Brisbane Portrait Prize (QPP). \nLast Updated March 2021 \nYou must comply with these terms and conditions and any additional instructions notified to you by QPP from time to time. You may be disqualified from the Competition if you do not comply. \nPrizes \nThe prizes in the Competition are: \n\nBrisbane Portrait Prize – Lord Mayor’s Prize and overall winner – $50\,000 (acquisitive)\nThe Courier-Mail People’s Choice Award – $7\,500 (non-acquisitive)\nAccenture Digital Prize – $10\,000 (non-acquisitive)\nSylvia Jones Prize for Women Artists – $5\,000 (non-acquisitive)\nPerforming Arts and Music Award – $7\,500 (non-acquisitive)\nPackers’ Prize – $5\,000 (non-acquisitive)\nEmerging Artists Awards – 2 prizes\, each a $1\,000 Oxlades voucher (non-acquisitive)\nUnder 18 Artist Award – prize details to be announced (non-acquisitive)\n\nThe entry criteria and judging process for each prize are set out below. Each prize will be awarded to the artwork meeting the applicable entry criteria for the prize and judged to be the best. \nKey Dates \nKey dates for the Competition (Key Dates) will be published on the website at www.brisbaneportraitprize.org.  The Key Dates may change\, so you should check the website regularly. \nEligibility \nTo enter the Competition\, you must meet the following eligibility criteria: \n\nBoth you and the subject of your artwork (Subject) must have a connection with Brisbane.\nBoth you and the Subject must be Australian residents from the date entries open until the date finalists are notified as set out in the Key Dates. An Australian resident is someone who holds a current permanent residency visa\, or is an Australian citizen.\nExcept for the Next Gen Artist Award\, you must be at least 18 years old.\nThe Subject must be alive at the time the artwork is created.\n\nAdditionally\, to be eligible for the Sylvia Jones Prize for Women Artists\, you must identify as a woman.  This prize is open to women of all diversities. \nDirectors\, officers and employees of QPP are not eligible to enter the Competition.  QPP volunteers are eligible to enter. \nArtworks \nThe artwork you enter in the Competition must meet the following entry criteria: \n\nAn original artwork\, entirely completed and owned outright by you.\nTwo dimensional.\nA portrait executed partly from life. The Subject must have sat for you in-person at least once (a virtual sitting does not meet this criteria).\nYou must have the Subject’s consent to enter the artwork in the Competition\, including ensuring they understand the artwork may be displayed to the public.\nIf the Subject is deceased as at the date you enter the Competition\, you must have obtained the Subject’s express consent to enter the artwork into the Competition (consent by a family member or other person will not meet this criteria).\nThe Subject must have sat for you in-person at least once and within 3 years of the closing date for entries set out in the Key Dates.\nYour artwork may be a self-portrait.\nCompleted within the 3 year period leading up to the closing date for entries set out in the Key Dates.\nA maximum size of 2m high by 2m wide\, including any frame.\nA maximum weight of 15 kg\, including any frame.\nMay be multi-paneled\, but must fit within the size restrictions above.\nWall-mountable\, including by using D Rings and hanging wire.\nAn original work that does not infringe the copyright\, moral rights or other rights of another person.\n\nAdditionally\, for the Digital Award: \n\nThe artwork must be a digital artwork.\nThe artwork may be produced using photographic elements\, manipulation of the image is welcomed\, and this may be in the pre or post production of the image.\nSelection weight will be given to those entries that display a clear artistic and creative approach to the Subject.\nAll digital mediums are eligible\, but must be presented in a two dimensional printed form that can be hung in display. Videos and other forms of display requiring power cables are not eligible.\n\nAdditionally\, for the Performing Arts and Music Award\, the Subject must be a person who is\, or has been\, involved in the performing arts and music industries. \nAdditionally\, for the Emerging Artists Awards\, you must be an emerging artist\, which means an artist the QPP Board determines to be an early career artist. \nAdditionally\, for the Next Gen Artist Award\, you must be 18 years of age or under as at the closing date for entries. It is not a requirement that the Subject sat for you in-person and you may work from a photograph\, provided that the photograph was taken within the 3 year period leading up to the closing date for entries set out in the Key Dates. You must also ensure your parent or legal guardian reads these terms and conditions and agrees to them when you enter the Competition. \nEntries \nFor all Prizes other than the Next Gen Artist Award\, \n\nYou may enter multiple artworks in the Competition (excluding the Next Gen Artist Award). Each artwork will be treated as a separate entry.  A separate entry form and application fee must accompany each entry.\nEntries must be submitted online only.\nWhen you submit your entry\, you must provide:\nyour details;\ninformation about your artwork\, including the name of the sitter\, size and medium;\ninformation about the categories your prize is eligible for;\nbrief statements about the artwork (120 words max) and the artist (60 words max) and must explain the connection that each of you and the Subject have with Brisbane;\nwhether you wish to be considered for the Salon des Refuses if you are not selected as a finalist and\nan image of the artwork in JPEG format (not exceeding 5 MB).\nA non-refundable $65 entry fee (incl GST) per entry must be paid online using a credit card. Entries will not be accepted until the entry fee has been received.\n\nFor the Next Gen Artist Award\, you must adhere to the following entry criteria: \n\nIf you are 18 years of age and you enter your artwork in the Next Gen Artist Award\, you cannot enter your artwork in any other Competition.\nEntries must be submitted online only.\nWhen you submit your entry\, you must provide:\n[your details;\ninformation about your artwork\, including the name of the sitter\, size and medium;\nbrief statements about the artwork\, artist and sitter (150 words max) and must explain the connection that each of you and the Subject have with Brisbane;\nan image of the artwork in JPEG format (not exceeding 5 MB).]\nA non-refundable $25 entry fee (incl GST) per entry must be paid online using a credit card. Entries will not be accepted until the entry fee has been received\n\nAdditionally\, for all entries: \n\nEntries must be received before 6pm AEST\, on the closing date for entries set out in the Key Dates.\nAn entry may be rejected by QPP on reasonable grounds including because you do not comply with the eligibility or entry criteria or the artwork does not comply with the requirements in these terms and conditions\, or because the artwork is otherwise determined not to be appropriate or suitable for the Competition.\n\nSelection of finalists \n\nQPP will appoint a panel (Judging Panel) consisting of suitably qualified independent people and a number of members of the QPP Board.\nThe Judging Panel will select finalists using the image of the artwork provided with entry.\nThe number of finalists will be determined by QPP in consultation with the Judging Panel.\nThe Judging Panel’s selection of finalists will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.\nFinalists will be notified by the date set out in the Key Dates and the names of finalists will be released to the media shortly afterwards.\nIf you are a finalist\, you agree to make yourself available for the purposes of exhibition related events\, promotion and publicity at times and dates and in places (including online and virtually\, as required) reasonably requested by QPP.\nFor the Next Gen Artist Award\, only the winner and highly commended will be displayed at the exhibition. Other finalists in this category will be displayed online only\, and so the delivery\, exhibition and collection terms and conditions below do not apply to those other finalists.\n\nSelection for the Salon des Refusés \n\nA Salon des Refusés will be operated by the Royal Queensland Arts Society (Brisbane Branch) Inc. (RQAS) in conjunction with QPP.\nYour artwork may be selected for the Salon des Refusés if you are not a finalist and you indicated you wanted your artwork to be considered for the Salon des Refusés when you entered the Competition.\n\nPreparing for delivery \nIf you are a finalist or your artwork is selected for the Salon des Refusés\, you must adhere to the following requirements when preparing your artwork for delivery: \n\nYour artwork must be ready for hanging including use of ‘D’ rings and hanging wire.  No artworks will be pinned to walls.\nWet paintings will not be accepted.\nYour artwork must be clearly labeled on the back with your name and contact details.\nMulti-paneled artworks must include a picture of the assembled work with clear instructions for installation.\nIf a person other than you\, including a courier\, will be delivering your artwork you must attach a copy of the confirmation email sent to you at the time of entering the Competition to the back of your artwork.\n\nDelivery \nIf you are a finalist or your artwork is selected for the Salon des Refusés\, you must adhere to the following requirements for delivering your artwork: \n\nIf you are a finalist\, your artwork must be delivered at your expense to the delivery dock at Brisbane Powerhouse\, 119 Lamington St\, New Farm QLD 4005.\nIf your artwork is selected for the Salon des Refusés\, your artwork must be delivered at your expense to Petrie Terrace Gallery\, Unit 3\, 162 Petrie Terrace\, Brisbane QLD 4000.\nYou will be advised of the dates and times for delivery.\nIf you are a finalist and your artwork is not delivered within the time allowed\, it will not be considered for the second round of judging.\nYour artwork may be delivered in person by you or another person authorised by you\, including a courier.  In all cases\, you are responsible for any risk of loss or damage to the artwork while it is in transit.  Artwork cannot be delivered by post.\nIf a finalist artwork is delivered and it is heavier and/or larger than the maximum limits set out above (see “Artworks”)\, then the artwork will not be eligible to be hung in the finalists’ exhibition.\n\nExhibition \n\nFinalists’ artwork will be exhibited at Brisbane Powerhouse\, and artworks selected for the Salon des Refusés will be exhibited at Petrie Terrace Gallery\, during the exhibition period set out in the Key Dates. This may include online and virtual exhibitions\, as determined by QPP.\nYour artwork must remain in the exhibition and cannot be removed until the end of the exhibition.\nIf you are a finalist\, your artwork may be required after the finalists’ exhibition and throughout the month of November for further satellite exhibitions and for any ongoing online gallery or virtual exhibitions.\nArtworks in the exhibitions will not be available for purchase.\nYou acknowledge that:\nthe exhibition venues are air-conditioned\, but not climate controlled;\nthe exhibition venues are open to the public;\nit will be impractical to prevent the public from taking photographs of your artwork; and\nyou will not hold QPP or RQAS responsible for such photography.\n\nSelection of prize winners \n\nOnly finalists’ artworks are eligible to be selected for a prize.\nThe winner of each prize (except the People’s Choice Prize\, Packers’ Prize\, Emerging Artists Awards and Next Gen Artist Award) will be selected by a suitably qualified independent person (Chief Judge) appointed by QPP.  The Chief Judge will not be a person on the Judging Panel.\nThe criteria and method used by the Chief Judge to select winning artworks will be determined by the Chief Judge.\nThe winner of the People’s Choice Prize will be selected by members of the public using the criteria and method determined by QPP.\nThe winner of the Packers’ Prize will be selected by QPP volunteers who receive\, unpack and hang the artworks using the criteria and method determined by QPP.\nThe winners of the Emerging Artists Awards and Next Gen Artist Award will be selected by the QPP Board\, or a person or persons appointed by the QPP Board (at its discretion).\nThe selection of prize winning artworks will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.\n\nAwarding of prizes \n\nPrize winners will be announced on the opening night and awards presentation during the finalists’ exhibition and published on the Brisbane Portrait Prize website shortly afterwards.\nExcept for the Emerging Artists Prize\, prizes will be paid to the prize winners by the method determined by QPP.\n\nCollection of artwork \n\nIf you are a finalist or your artwork is selected for the Salon des Refusés\, your artwork must be collected from the exhibition venue after the exhibition has concluded on the date for collection set out in the Key Dates. If you are a finalist\, QPP may notify you of a later date for collection if your artwork is required after the finalists’ exhibition and during November for further satellite exhibitions.\nYour artwork may be collected in person by you or by another person authorised by you\, including a courier. You must notify QPP or RQAS (as applicable) if a person other than you will be collecting your artwork.  In all cases\, you are responsible for any risk of loss or damage to the artwork while it is in transit.\nQPP and RQAS will not be responsible for returning your artwork or paying any costs associated with it being returned to you.\nIf your artwork is not collected by the last day for collection set out in the Key Dates\, it will be held in storage for one month. You agree to reimburse QPP for any reasonable storage costs.  If your artwork is still not collected after one month\, QPP reserves the right to sell or dispose of your artwork and retain any proceeds of sale.\n\nUse of artwork \n\nYou warrant that\, for any artwork you enter in the Competition:\nyou are the owner of the artwork and the copyright in the artwork;\nthe artwork is your own original work; and\nuse of the artwork in relation to the Competition in accordance with these terms and conditions will not infringe the copyright\, moral rights or other rights of another person.\nIf you are a finalist or your artwork is selected for the Salon des Refusés\, you grant QPP a non-exclusive\, sub-licensable\, worldwide\, perpetual and irrevocable license to exercise copyright in your artwork for the purposes of administering\, promoting and providing information about the Competition. This includes producing photographs\, catalogues and advertising for promotional purposes.\nYou retain all moral rights in your artwork.\n\nOwnership \n\nIf you win the Lord Mayor’s Prize\, your artwork will become the property of the Brisbane City Council. This does not affect copyright or moral rights in the artwork.\nIf you do not win the Lord Mayor’s Prize\, your artwork will remain your property.\n\nLiability \n\nTo the maximum extent permitted by law\, none of QPP\, RQAS\, any of their directors\, sponsors\, employees\, agents\, officers\, contractors and volunteers\, the Chief Judge\, or any member of the Judging Panel (together the Indemnified) will be liable for any loss or damage to your artwork while it is in their care\, custody or control.\nIf you are concerned about your artwork being lost or damaged\, you should take out your own insurance coverage.\nYou indemnify the Indemnified against any loss or damage suffered or incurred by the Indemnified arising from any claim by a third party in relation to your artwork\, including any claim that your artwork infringes another person’s copyright or moral rights.\n\nChanges \nWe may make reasonable changes to the manner in which the Competition is conducted.  We will endeavor to keep you informed of any material changes.  We may also postpone or cancel the Competition if circumstances outside our control materially prevent us from conducting the Competition in the manner set out in these terms and conditions.  If the Competition is cancelled\, we will refund your entry fee. \nGoverning Law \nThese terms and conditions will be governed by the laws of Queensland.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n
