SUMMARY:Extinction is For Ever
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523319263370{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Extinction is for Ever is a collaborative sculpture installation focussing on the plight of Queensland wildlife under the threat of extinction. \nThis includes loss of habitat and safety in the environment; loss to fire\, flood\, drought\, urban sprawl and care-less-ness; and loss is exhausting – for suffering animals and for humans trying to make a difference. \nClaudje Lecompte and Susan Margaret are co-curators and are collaborating with 30 artists and the Queensland Conservation Council to focus on the vulnerable\, endangered or extinct in the wild mammals and birds in Queensland. \nEach artist involved because of their passionate interest in wildlife\, the environment and its conservation. Techniques and materials used vary from metal\, wood\, paper and fibre – from permanent to ephemeral. The sculptures will be arranged on the floor in colour coded sections representing the level of vulnerability they face as they head towards extinction. \nOur fauna and flora need every Australians’ care. When we want to sustain a thriving environment\, we need to actively protect it. When we feel the miracle of connection\, we will care in an active way.  How can we all be aware and protect our wildlife? \nThese questions and more will be explored at the Awareness Conversation on Saturday\, 16th of November from 2pm to 4pm. Specialists will be invited to speak about the environment\, habitats and actions already being taken.  First Nations people will be invited to speak about culture\, totems and preservation.  Artists will speak about the concepts and techniques in their work. Visitors and the community will be invited to share their concerns\, actions and support. Everyone is invited to participate – come with contributions and questions. \nProgram details\, including presenters and times\, will be available on the RQAS website closer to the exhibition dates. \nAfter the Awareness Conversation\, attendees are invited to stay at the gallery for the Opening Celebration (Saturday\, 16th of November\, 4pm – 8pm). Everyone is invited to come along\, we look forward to seeing you at the gallery! \nThis exhibition will be on show at Petrie Terrace Gallery from Tuesday\, 12th November to Sunday\, 17th November\, 2024.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n
