SUMMARY:BRISBANE BRICKS: Book Launch with Brisbane and Beyond Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Opening Event: The official book launch and signing will be on June 26\, 2019\, from 7pm\, at the Petrie Terrace Gallery where the authors\, Joanne and Virginia\, will also be exhibiting their photographs “Brisbane and Beyond” \nExhibition dates: June 25 to July 1\, 2019 (Gallery open from 10am to 3.30pm Tuesday to Sunday) \nOver the last few years Joanne Heath and Virginia Russell roamed the streets of Brisbane to uncover a surprising number of interesting brick buildings in Brisbane–a city more usually known for its gracious Queenslanders of timber and corrugated iron. \nThe result is a book entitled BRISBANE BRICKS. \nJoanne Heath’s father was a bricklayer\, and Virginia Russell worked for many years as an architect. Their collaboration has resulted in a distinctive and eclectic photographic narrative of around 200 images\, which they hope will be inspirational as well as nostalgic. \nIn his foreword Professor Michael Keniger\, a past president of the Australian Institute of Architects\, writes: \n“Through their shared insights and skilful photographic studies [the authors] have drawn together the visual essay offered by Bricks of Brisbane to reveal the remarkable variety of ways with which brick has been used to underpin and enrich the robust character of the city.” \nAccompanying the photographs are quotes from famous architects\, Joanne’s haiku poems\, and some interesting stories and information about the buildings. The final chapter is a brief history of brick making in Brisbane written by Magnus Eriksson \nVisit  https://virginiarussell.wixsite.com/brisbanebricks for further information about the “Brisbane Bricks”  book and events around Brisbane.\n\nWest End Magazine here  https://www.westendmagazine.com/book-brisbane-bricks/\n
