The inspiration for my paintings is the Hollywood movies of the 1940s and 50s. These movies featured glamorous stars and dramatic plots and provided an escape from the dreariness of everyday life.
I appropriate and transform the black and white publicity stills from these Hollywood films by painting them in arbitrary colours and placing them in incongruous and sometimes bizarre settings. The resulting paintings are designed to unsettle the viewer and create a mystery for them to solve.
Over the past few years I have participated in solo exhibitions at Percolator Gallery, Inala Gallery and BIA Gallery, and joint exhibitions at Brisbane Modern Art Gallery, HillierSkuse Art Gallery, Lorraine Pilgrim Art Gallery, Main Street Gallery Montville, and Hinge Gallery.
I have been finalist in Stanthorpe Art Prize 2016, Noosa Art Prize 2016, Lethbridge 10,000 2015 & 2016, Minnawarra Award 2016, Rotary Art Spectacular 2015 & 2016, Moreton Bay Art Awards 2016.
In 2015 my exhibition at the Percolator Gallery received a half page review by art critic Phil Brown in Extra in the Courier Mail.
