Jennifer Long

Brisbane, Australia

Art has been a lifetime pursuit for Brisbane visual artist Jennifer Long. She is drawn to many, varied sources and her images of landscape, people, objects and architecture reflect this disparity.  Working in a range of media – oil painting, printmaking, drawing, collage and ricepaper bowls – has enabled her to explore a range of mark making to express these disparate ideas. Imagery is often symbolic and surreal and invites the viewer to speculate on its origins. Reference sources are gleaned from connections between places and objects, past and present and the real and imagined.

In 1973 Jennifer received a BArts degree with studies in Fine Art at the University of Queensland. In 1976-77 she undertook a Diploma of Art at the Queensland College of Art. She has done life drawing and painting workshops  with Betty Churcher and Roy Churcher, Mervyn Moriarty and Irene Amos. She studied painting and life drawing with David Paulson at QCA and the Brisbane Institute of Art. In the last three years she has done painting, print and lithography workshops with Elizabeth Cummings, Judy Watson, Peter Lancaster, Claudia Husband and Christopher Hagan. Since 2010 she has pursued etching at the BIA with Wim de Voss, Carolyn McKenzie Craig and now in 2015 with Gwenn Tasker.

She has won a number of art prizes(see below) and has work in corporate collections and private collections across Australia, France and USA.

She is a member of the Brisbane Institute of Art, Visionaries, Impress Printmaking Studio, QAGOMA and the Flying Arts Alliance. Her website showcases her art as does her artist’s page on Facebook and an Etsy site JenniferLongArt.

She exhibits regularly in solo and group exhibitions and is available for commissions and workshops. She works daily in her studio and her most recent solo exhibition is on show at the Old Friary, 139 Brookfield Road, Kenmore Hills from 21 June-20 July 2015.
