Debbie Parker - 2014
Art has always been an important part of Debbie Parker’s life – since childhood she’s spent as much time as possible painting, drawing and appreciating art. She is influenced by artists such as, Margaret Woodward, Turner, Monet and Alberto Giacometti.!
She loves experimenting with dry media and water-based media using different effects – and taking advantage of the accidental things that happen on the canvas or paper to create images often found naturally. Her landscapes done are in the expressionist style are lively interpretations of the scenes she sees using broad sweeping gestures to explain the feeling of the place.
Deb is an avid bush walker and most of landscapes she produces are inspired by the scenes she experiences in her encounters in the bush throughout Australia. Living close to Mount Coot-Tha National Park and the Botanical Gardens has been a real source of inspiration for her new work.
She also enjoys drawing, producing lovely charcoal and pastel works on paper and incorporating drawing technics in her canvases working in mixed media using combinations of charcoal, pastel and acrylics or gouache and some times oil. In her figurative paintings she has taken her love of life drawing, and found ways of fixing the dry media to the surface, to show movement and light while still retaining her drawn lines.
She has regularly exhibited and received awards in Brisbane in local art shows and has had several solo exhibitions.
